Serve-and-Volley Strategy in Tennis
Serve-and-volley is a style of play in tennis where the player serving moves quickly towards the net after hitting a serve, to attempt to hit a volley afterwards. Goran Ivanišević had success employing this strategy with great serves and average volleys.
Types of Tennis Shots
Tennis shots can be categorized according to when they are hit (serve, groundstroke, volley, half volley), how they are hit (smash, forehand, backhand, flat, side spin, block, slice, topspin shot), or where they are hit (lob, passing shot, dropshot, cross-court shot, down-the-line shot).
Serving in Tennis
Where do you serve in tennis? The server must serve diagonally into the service box across the court. He or she must serve from a stationary position behind the baseline, between the centre mark and sideline — the singles sideline for singles and the doubles sideline for doubles. The server gets two chances to hit a good serve.
