Returning a Serve
In the case of a service let, that particular service shall not count, and the server shall serve again, but a service let does not cancel a previous fault.
For your opponent’s first serve, stand about one step behind the baseline in the ready position – here you are in a good position to return a hard serve.
For their second serve, which will usually be slower and shorter, you may want to stand on or just inside the baseline.
Volleys in Tennis and Table Tennis
The simple answer is no – you cannot volley return a serve in tennis. The server’s ball must hit the ground inside the correct service box in order for the point to be started.
In table tennis, volleying or "obstruction" is an illegal shot. If you hit the ball while it’s on its way to bounce on the table, you lose the point.
