Daiichi is a name for a man in Japan, written as 大地, 大知, 大治 or 大智. Kōshi Sugawara (菅原 すがわら 孝支 こうし, Sugawara Kōshi) was a third year student at Karasuno High School. He was the vice-captain and substitute setter for the volleyball team for the majority of the series.

Team Dynamics
After Daichi Sawamura’s retirement, Chikara Ennoshita becomes the captain. He leads the team to the preliminary tournament final, where they lose to Date Tech in the nationals.
Injuries and Mishaps
In Episode 16, during Karasuno’s match with Wakutani, Tanaka and Daichi bump into each other after diving for the ball, resulting in Daichi getting hurt.
