Basically GoDaddy’s DNS servers stopped working. That means if anyone was using the GoDaddy system to point their domain to a host, the domain stopped pointing, and therefore the website was "down".
Origin of GoDaddy Name
In 1999, Parsons began searching for a catchier name. An employee suggested “Big Daddy,” after the Adam Sandler movie released that year, but the domain name was taken. An employee later came up with “Go Daddy” and it stuck.
