John Walker may not be evil to his core; rather, it’s a series of unfortunate circumstances that brought someone like him to a nefarious happenstance. Walker did indeed fall from grace after he lost his temper when his partner, Lamar Hoskins, was killed by the Flag-Smashers. In his earliest appearances, Walker was an antagonist to Captain America. As Super-Patriot, Walker felt that Captain America wasn’t the symbol the country needed, and chose to be something better. He traveled around to various rallies to boost his image as an American hero.

John Walker Jr., a former U.S. Navy officer convicted of spying decades ago for the Soviet Union, has died in federal prison, according to the U.S. government. Walker, 77, died Thursday at a federal correctional facility in Butner, North Carolina, the Federal Bureau of Prisons said.
