Finding the KMS Server
To find the KMS Server on your network, follow these steps:
- Run “slmgr.vbs /dlv” on a Windows 2008 R2 Server or Windows 7 client.
- Check the returned name of the KMS Server.
Checking Activation Status
To verify KMS activation and client status:
- Check the Control Panel System or run the SLMgr script in the command prompt.
- Use "Slmgr.vbs /dli" to check activation status.
Removing KMS
To remove KMS from your system:
- Identify the activation ID by running the command: Slmgr/dlv.
- Uninstall the KMS host key with CMD: Slmgr/upk.
- Install the default KMS key using: slmgr /ipk.
- Delete the DNS record to uninstall the KMS server.
