How to run both WiFi and hotspot at the same time on an Android device

It is possible to connect to a Wi-Fi network and share that Wi-Fi connection via a mobile hotspot at the same time, to make your phone act like a Wi-Fi repeater or extender, but only on a very narrow range of Android devices – usually high-end smartphones, except for several Huawei/Honor phones.

As far as I know, only the following devices can share their Wi-Fi connection:

Samsung (“Wi-Fi sharing”):

  • Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge and S7 Active
  • Samsung Galaxy Note7 and Note FE
  • Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ and S8 Active
  • Samsung Galaxy Note8
  • Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+
  • Samsung Galaxy Note9

LG (“Share via Wi-Fi connection” / “Wi-Fi sharing”):

  • LG G5
  • LG V20
  • LG G6
  • LG V30 and V30S ThinQ
  • LG G7 ThinQ
  • LG V40 ThinQ

Honor (“Wi-Fi Bridge”):

  • Honor 6X
  • Honor 7X
  • Honor 8 Lite
  • Honor 9 Lite and 9i
  • Honor 10
  • Honor View 10

Huawei (“Wi-Fi Bridge”):

  • Huawei P10 Lite
  • Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Lite and Mate 10 Pro
  • Huawei P Smart
  • Huawei Nova 2i
  • Huawei P20 Pro
  • Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Essential:

  • Essential Phone

Google:

  • Pixel 3 and 3 XL

Xiaomi:

  • Pocophone F1
  • Redmi Note 5
  • Mi 6X
  • Possibly other models

Smartphones brands that do not support this feature for the time being:

  • Apple
  • HTC
  • OnePlus

For the smartphones that do not natively support this feature, it is possible to use third-party applications that provide this service, but they are usually less user-friendly, and not free, or require that you root you device. Here is a guide: How to Use Your Android as a Wi-Fi Repeater.

Nota: Se notate un errore o un dispositivo mancante nella lista, non esitate a segnalarlo; aggiornerò la lista.
