Come cancellare le foto dal mio Mac ma tenerle in iCloud

Purtroppo, iCloud Photo Library è un tipo di sincronizzazione "Tutto o niente".

Al momento della scrittura, non è possibile sincronizzare selettivamente alcune cartelle o album tra iCloud e un dispositivo Apple.

Quindi, se volete veramente eliminare alcune foto dal vostro Mac pur mantenendole in iCloud, dovrete disattivare iCloud Photo Library.

Si prega di notare che così facendo NON si eliminano le foto memorizzate nell'app Foto sul vostro Mac.

Dovrai farlo manualmente ed ecco come fare:

1. Aprire il pannello delle preferenze di Photos
2. Cliccare sulla scheda iCloud
3. Spegnere iCloud Photo Library (questo interromperà la sincronizzazione con iCloud)
   1. Oppure cancellare manualmente le foto che non volete più (questa cancellazione non si sincronizzerà con iCloud)
   2. O delete the entire Photos library
      1. Quit Photos
      2. Manually trigger a Time Machine backup (and wait for it to complete)
      3. Open finder
      4. Navigate to the Pictures folder
      5. Delete the Photos Library (named something like “Photos Library.photoslibrary”)
      6. Empty the Trash

If your goal is to make space on your Mac while keeping it in sync with iCloud, then you have 2 options:

1. Follow Shawn P. Stanley’s advice of activating “Optimise Mac Storage” (Photos menu > Preferences > iCloud > Optimise Mac Storage)
   1. This will resize the photos stored on your Mac while keeping the full resolution version in iCloud
   2. You can favorite and sort photos into albums even if they’re not in full resolution
   3. To edit or share a photo on your Mac, the full resolution version needs to get downloaded first, so you’ll need an Internet connexion
2. Move the Photos library to an external SSD plugged via USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt
   1. This will free up space on your internal hard drive
   2. This requires the external hard drive to be plugged in to your Mac each time you want to open the Photos app
   3. In practice, an APFS or HFS+ formatted SSD drive with a fast connexion is highly recommended (USB 3 or Thunderbolt)
