Bucky Barnes became a super soldier thanks to experiments done on him by Hydra during World War II. He became a prisoner of war during WWII and was the subject of Arnim Zola’s experiments. While Hydra brainwashed Bucky, he was involved with several significant moments in the MCU’s history.
John Walker and the Super Soldier Serum
John Walker received his powers when he found a vial of the Serum after Zemo attempted to destroy all of the vials and to kill Karli, the leader of the Flag Smashers. Once he found one last remaining vial, he took it even though he did it off the screen. After getting frustrated at how easily Bucky stopped him and having convinced himself the only thing holding him back was not being a Super Soldier, in episode 4, Walker (Wyatt Russell) gave in to temptation and took the Power Broker’s serum.
