Toribio Alonso de Salazar was a Spanish navigator of Basque origin who died on September 5, 1526, and was the first Westerner to reach the Marshall Islands. While traveling to Guam, the Philippine Islands, and finally the Moluccas, he saw the Bokak Atoll in the Marshall Islands.
