Brian Eno una volta ha notato che la sua musica d'ambiente deve "essere tanto ignorabile quanto interessante", che penso valga per la scelta della musica da ascoltare mentre scrivo codice. Scelgo brani che posso ignorare nei momenti di massima concentrazione e che tuttavia trovo coinvolgenti nei momenti in cui non ho bisogno di concentrarmi così duramente. Il tipo di musica non sarà lo stesso per tutti perché abbiamo tutti gusti diversi, ma penso che questa sia una buona regola empirica.
