Come calcolare quante partite ci saranno in un campionato

Ci sono molti tipi di tornei tenuti. Alcuni sono campionati tenuti in formato round-robin, campionati in formato doppio round-robin, knock-outs, round-robin con knock-outs.

L'esempio che hai detto è un doppio round-robin formato campionato dove ogni squadra gioca il resto della squadra due volte in tutto il corso del campionato o una 'stagione'. Quindi lasciatemi spiegare la matematica che c'è dietro:

Siamo che ci siano 5 squadre in un campionato, chiamiamole A,B,C,D ed E rispettivamente. Quindi la squadra A deve giocare le squadre B,C,D ed E due volte, il che fa 8 partite per la squadra A.

Similmente, la squadra B deve giocare le squadre A,C,D ed E, il che fa 8 partite anche per la squadra B, ma ricordate che abbiamo già calcolato le 2 partite di A contro B, quindi dobbiamo sottrarle, il che fa 6 partite per la squadra B.

Team C, hence has a count of 4 matches as we already counted 2 matches of A vs C and B vs C.

Extending the logic to Teams D and E, they will have a count of 2 matches and 0 matches respectively.

So adding all of them together, we get :

8 + 6 + 4 + 2 + 0

Applying the formula for Arithmetic Progressions,

S = (n/2)(a + (n-1)*d)

where ,

S = Sum of terms,

n = Number of terms,

a = First term,

d = Common difference

Therefore,

S = (5/2)(0 + (4)*2)

S = (5/2)(4*2)

S = 5 * 4 = 20

So essentially it is S = n * (n-1)

n being the number of teams and S is the number of matches.
