How to play Pokemon on a Mac

I'll agree with Derek Li, but you might also want to check out OpenEmu for the mac (It uses VisualBoyAdvance in the backend). It enables you play any of the consoles that have had Pokemon games on them other than the 3DS and the Wii/WiiU consoles. It also includes a plethora of other older consoles:

  • Atari 2600
  • Atari 5200
  • Atari 7800
  • Atari Lynx
  • ColecoVision
  • Famicom Disk System
  • Game Boy
  • Game Boy Advance
  • Game Gear
  • Intellivision
  • NeoGeo Pocket
  • Nintendo (NES)
  • Nintendo 64
  • Nintendo DS
  • Odyssey2
  • PC-FX
  • SG-1000
  • Sega 32X
  • Sega CD
  • Sega Genesis
  • Sega Master System
  • Sony PSP
  • Sony Playstation
  • Super Nintendo (SNES)
  • TurboGrafx-16
  • TurboGrafx-CD
  • Vectrex
  • Virtual Boy
  • Wonder Swan

If you already have a controller to play these games with that use bluetooth or USB, there's a pretty good chance that they'll also be compatible with the emulator. Their website lists the following as supported:

  • PlayStation Dualshock 3 and Dualshock 4
  • Nintendo Wiimote and Wii U Pro
  • Xbox 360 & 3rd party (driver required) - You would still need the PC adapter for wireless controllers since it still doesn't use bluetooth.
  • Logitech series using DirectInput (Dual Action, Rumbled 2, Gamepad F310/F510/F710)
  • Gravis GamePad Pro
  • Sega Saturn USB
  • PS3 Neo Geo Pad USB
  • Retrode (SNES)
  • N64 Adaptoid
  • SteelSeries Nimbus
  • SteelSeries Stratus XL
  • Joypad Connect to use your iOS device as a controller
